You can download GTalk, Psi or Pidgin for connecting to Jabber, an open standard for instant messaging, check out the entry on Jabber in the Kitchen. You can also use the online IM client Meebo. I am currently using Empathy on Ubuntu 8.04 (a distribution of GNU+Linux).

The speaker on my cell phone is broken, so until I can find an unwanted second hand Vodafone to put my SIM card in, there's no point trying to call me. I can still receive and send texts but I'm more likely to send responses to Vodafone as I have Txt2000:
