Story Bits
These are various scenes I have written at different times that could become finished short stories or part of a larger story. All material on this page and this whole site comes under a CreativeCommons.org license which allows it to be republished for non-profit purposes.

I would love to include some images in this part of the site. Pictures of the characters as different people see them and illustrations of bits of actions from the scenes would be great. If you are an artist and any of these fragments inspire you please email me and if I like your art I'll include it here.

If any links don't work or it looks crappy and unreadable on your browser please let me know so I can try to fix it.
The Scenes:

Bridge
Beer
Mac
Mute
Outranet
Terrorist Guide

The original idea behind this story was that the main character Mewkis is brought up on an unbelievably dangerous and violent planet which offworlders find inexplicably fascinating. He graduates from a college which trains people as guides for these misguided tourists but becomes bored with the life of a terrestrial guide. He discovers the Outranet and retrains as an interspace navigator. He joins the pseudosub 'the Neon' under Caplain Morrison whose is hunting a white dwarf (in pseudospace the vast, cosmic intelligences of intersteller bodies manifest as creatures or characters too) and has travelled far beyond the space he is familiar with.

The second two scenes written in the first person are part of an older body of work of which much was lost or destroyed by my pet rats before I had a chance to type it up. The first scene is strongly influenced by the original Time Slice - now Inter(sur)face - scenario in which communication between planets was possible only through virtual reality conduits which needed the combined intelligence of a crew of people to maintain a clear signal - experienced by the crew as a sort of cyberspaceship. The fourth scene is a small fragment which was originally written for Time Slice but has more to do with the Terrorist Guide scenario.

"Anarchism's great project is to dissolve the asymmetry of power. How? There are thousands of alternatives and there is not only one solution. To advance 'one' solution would be a doctrine of power, a manifestation of power."
