This is the public workspace of
Danyl Strype, indymedia volunteer, jazzpunk
musician, social
justice
activist, community-minded
neighbour, rainbow
gatherer and general all-round nice guy. I'm also an open source geek - this page was made
using Mozilla Composer and Filezilla and I'm
intending to put in Cascading
Style Sheets. I live in the
islands of Aotearoa (NZ) in the south
pacific. If you are bored enough to want to know more about me you probably need to get out more.
In general I'm no fan of the
concept of "intellectual property"
and I think WIPO
are the 'Ministry
of Truth' for the new world
order. Consequently all the text on my
pages are anti-copyright. That
means you can reproduce it freely for non-profit purposes although I
would appreciate being credited as the author and having my email
address or a link to this site included in the quotation. If you are a
commercial publisher interested in my writing,
especially the fiction, please email
me and we can discuss terms.
Speaking of media freedom it
might interest you to know that the vast majority
of the world's mass media are owned by 6 giant corporations.
Aotearoa, where I live, pretty much follows the pattern as this .PDF info
leaflet by Bill Rosenberg of
CAFCA illustrates. By the way I
encourage everyone who uses .PDF on their site to check out DJVU.
IN
THE LAB
Also on the subject of media
monopolies, for years I have used and
recommend Google as the internet
search engine of choice. But recently a watch-dog
website has got me
wondering if this is such a good idea and over the next few months I am
going to be investigating alternatives to using Google and summarizing
my results in the closet. Havn't had much
time to look into this yet but it seems to me to be a really important
issue. Some of you may remember the web before there were any online
search engines - it was diabolical! You had to know an EXACT URL to
look at anything! Search engines are crucial to the way people interact
with the internet and it seems important for someone to keep a watch on
their pratices.
NEW!
With the recent 3 day collapse
of the global Indymedia listserver and
the ongoing frustration of using free 'services' like YahooGripes for
activist networking, it has become essential to set up a
free activist-orientated email list
service
for Aotearoa, along the organisational model of RiseUp and MutualAid.
Luckily Enzyme, a website hosting service has now expanded into
offering hosting on their new listserver running the same MailMan
software that
powers the Indymedia Listserver.
Enzyme invite activists in
Aotearoa using email lists to discuss whether
they would be interested in moving to the new service. There are no
fixed charges but if anyone can afford to donate some cash to RiseUp,
who have been a big help in getting Enzyme upgraded, please have a look
at their donation
page. One of the donations systems they use is the Network
for Good. Speaking
of donations, here's some info about various online
donation systems.
Screw you guys
I'm going home...
